The female version first appeared
on Broadway in 1985 starring Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers. According to The New York
Times Magazine, "Neil Simon's gender-switch rewrite outclasses the old script in many
ways. Simon has more fully developed the characters of the mismatched pair, while
retaining the key to the play's humor
The female version provides a more balanced
portrayal of two strong women

The
Skin of our Teeth
by Thornton Wilder directed by Donna Johns
October 24 - November 2, 2003
In the dark days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Thornton Wilder crafted a fable, a farce, a black comedy and a hopeful piece of drama. Written by the author of Our Town, this Pulitzer Prize-winning satire deals with the trials and tribulations of the Antrobus family as we follow this "Everyman" and his kin through the Ice Age, Noah's flood, and World War III. As funny and entertaining as it is poignant, this play has been called a testament of faith in humanity.
The N.Y. Herald Tribune termed it "wonderfully
wise... a tremendously exciting and profound stage fable."
