Dr. Lyssa Hughes is the President's nominee for Surgeon General. An innocent mistake from her past is revealed and the media is out to destroy her future. From that moment on she is forced to sit helplessly by, as the press and the public shatter her privacy, her career, and her world. Newsday magazine wrote of "An American Daughter", "A daring new play, beautiful, brilliant, angry, and funny. Wendy Wasserstein is as observant as ever. The play is also enormously moving."
